Mount kailash Tour with North Face View Trip
Situated in the remote western region of Tibet, Mount Kailash is regarded as the most revered peak in Asia. Few mountains compare to the mystery, remoteness, and splendor of Kailash. Recognized by both Buddhists and Hindus as the Center of the Universe, its slopes are the sources of four major rivers: the Indus, Brahmaputra, Ganges, and Sutlej. The spiritual presence of Kailash attracts worshipers from across Asia.
During this Mount Kailash excursion, we travel across the Tibetan Plateau from Kathmandu to Kailash, followed by a four-day sacred circumambulation, which includes Charan Sparsh and the ascent of the 18,200-feet Drolma La Pass. We will also visit the sacred Lake Manosarvar, which Hindus regard as the feminine energy, the yoni of the universe, complementing the masculine energy or lingam of Kailash.

Rising over 22,000 feet, Mount Kailash (6741m) – the holiest mountain in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition – is considered the center of the universe. This strangely symmetrical and remarkable peak is found in the far western part of Tibet. To many, it represents the primordial form of a stupa/choerten, topped with a glacier and an ideal cone of pristine snow.
Mt. Kailash holds the remarkable title of being the most revered sacred mountain globally, while simultaneously being one of the least frequented. Esteemed as the holy mountain by four distinct faiths and over a billion individuals, it attracts only a few thousand devotees annually.
The creation stories and cosmologies of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism identify Kailash as the mythical Mt. Meru, representing the Axis Mundi, the center, and the origin of the universe. Long before the renowned Hindu epics, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, were composed, the mountain was already steeped in legend.
Kailash is intricately embedded into the myths of ancient Asia, as many believed it to be a potent source of cosmic energy. Geologically, Mt. Kailash was formed approximately 50 million years ago, in contrast to the Himalayas, which are thought to have emerged about 10 million years ago.
In Sanskrit, Kailas translates to luminous crystal. Hindus regard Mt. Kailash as the dwelling of Lord Shiva, with ancient lore suggesting that the immortal Shiva resides at its summit, marking the mountain as a site of significant transformational power.
Thus, for a Hindu embarking on the pilgrimage to Kailash and experiencing a darshan (divine sight) of Shiva’s abode, it is believed that they can achieve liberation from ignorance and delusion.
The mountain is equally sacred to Jains, who refer to a nearby hill’s formation as Astapada, the site where Rishaba, the first of twenty-four Tirthankaras, attained liberation. Followers of Bon, Tibet’s pre-Buddhist religion, call the mountain Tise, viewing it as the throne of the Sky Goddess Sipaimen.
